About the Metro

The Metro Theater, a beloved community movie theater on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, has been shuttered since 2006. A beautiful example of Art Deco architecture in the heart of New York City, it opened in 1933. In 1989, New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) designated the Midtown (now Metro) an individual landmark. It was closed in 2005, fully gutted soon thereafter, and has sat empty ever since.

We’re a group of neighbors & friends who want to see the Metro reopen for audiences, not just customers.
